Four Reasons why Steam Cleaning Makes an Astute Commercial Choice

Sometimes, traditional cleaning methods just aren’t sufficient for certain purposes. Chemicals can’t always be used, and where infection control is necessary, there are only certain cleaning methods that fit the bill, particularly where food preparation and healthcare are concerned.

MRSA and other superbugs are a major concern and the solution preferred by the NHS and private healthcare providers for the most part tends to be steam cleaning. This would suggest that steam cleaning offers wider benefits. Here we look at the top four reasons behind these benefits.

Reason 1: It reaches the parts other cleaning can’t reach

Steam kills germs, dissolves grease and sanitises surfaces. It infiltrates nooks, crannies, crevices and cracks, in other words, all the places traditional cleaning methods cannot reach. Steam cleaning attacks dust mites, germs, mould and fungus. It’s great on glass and mirrors where it leaves a streak-free finish, and perfect for cleansing fridges, freezers, work surfaces, filters and bins.

Reason 2: It’s detergent free

Detergents don’t usually feature with steam cleaning, although it is possible to use them in certain settings. Where the use of detergents is not desirable, maybe where an environmentally friendly cleaning solution is preferred, the steam alone will deliver adequate cleaning and sanitisation power. In other words, steam cleaning can provide the ideal eco-friendly option.

Reason 3: Quick-drying

Because steam evaporates rapidly, surfaces dry a lot quicker than they do with water. This makes for a far more efficient cleaning process. It also reduces water consumption and cuts labour costs.

Reason 4: Highly Effective

Steam cleaning is effective in removing stubborn substances, for example glue, chewing gum and wax. It is suitable for most surfaces other than certain fabrics such as silk and velour, paper and cardboard and anything covered in water-based paint, but always remember to test an inconspicuous area before proceeding.

Choosing a Steam Cleaner

There are various commercial steam cleaners on the market such as the Coccinella Commercial Steam Cleaner, one of the most popular models we sell. It works on kitchen and work surface grease, cooking equipment and hotplates and is ideal for sanitising waste receptacles, toilets, showers and changing rooms. In addition, this model will effectively clean glass mirrors; it powers through gum and is a powerful stain remover for upholstery and carpets.

Lindhaus: A Trusted Name in Commercial Cleaning Machines

The Lindhaus brand was founded during the 1980s in Italy by a company specialising in the design and manufacture of domestic and commercial cleaning machines.

The Lindhaus range is particularly popular within the commercial sector, with products such as powerful twin motor upright vacuums; convenient battery operated vacuum sweepers, hard floor scrubber dryers and the hybrid wide area vacuum.

Lindhaus is well known as one of the best brands when it comes to performance and efficiency, and is renowned for delivering exceptional quality at competitive prices. Selected as the supplier of choice for numerous government buildings, there is even a rumour that there’s a Lindhaus in the Whitehouse!

The sister company of Lindhaus, Rotafil, has been manufacturing electric motors and winding machines as far back as the 1960s. Naturally, all Lindhaus cleaning machines are powered by Rotafil motors, making them incredibly robust and effective.

The Lindhaus range of upright vacuum cleaners offers a variety of power level options. The twin motor machines are quiet in operation yet incredibly powerful with one motor independently driving the brush roller at 5,000 rpm and the second focusing solely on sucking up debris into the 4 litre paper bag. All offer an extendible on board hose and extension wand as standard together with a detachable head which makes the machine easy to clear in case of blockage. There’s also a replaceable brush roll barrel and optional HEPA or carbon active filters.

The Lindhaus scrubber dryer is also a twin motor machine, perfect for smaller areas and ideal for dealing with spillages and cleaning requirements in areas where floors simply cannot be left anything other than safely dry. The machine cleans right up to the edge and can also be used for window cleaning and as a wet pick-up vacuum. It’s also easy to store.

The Lindhaus hybrid wide area vacuum is a lightweight, easy to use cleaner that can be used either on battery power or via a cable. Perfect for all types of carpet, the machine’s wide body frame rotation makes it ideal for easy access under tables. There’s a 16 litre debris capacity; an on board charger and a full set of on board tools.

With Lindhaus, there really is something to suit every commercial need. For more information and tailored advice, and to arrange your free commercial demonstration of your chosen Lindhaus machine, get in touch with Anderson Trade.

Personalised Advice, Tailored Service, Helpful Demonstrations: It’s the Anderson Way!

If you are looking to purchase a cleaning solution for your organisation, such as a commercial vacuum cleaner, hard floor cleaner or scrubber dryer, then you will no doubt be somewhat overwhelmed by the volume of choice on offer.

What is right for one business or set of requirements is not always going to match the same for another and as a result, attempting to conduct your own research online can often lead to confusion and conflicting advice.

Whilst there are numerous buyers’ guides out there (we have published a few ourselves, listed at the end of this post), there really is no substitute for tailored advice – from a human!

Imagine being able to ask as many questions as you need to: questions that are specific to your needs rather than someone else’s. This is not always possible because, perhaps as a sign of the times, many suppliers of commercial cleaning machines are online only.

Free Demonstrations

Something else that truly makes a difference when you are making an investment into a commercial cleaning machine is the opportunity to see it in action.

The good news is, with Anderson Trade, personalised advice and demonstrations are all totally possible.

Anderson Trade is a nationwide supplier of commercial vacuum, carpet and hard floor cleaners and also stocks an extensive variety of spares, accessories and janitorial supplies. Our service extends beyond online supply, because we know how important the personal touch is, plus we prefer to forge relationships with our customers rather than simply transact with them.

Total Reassurance

We’ve been delivering to the trade for many years now and have learnt from experience that customers feel a lot more reassured when they are able to speak to someone who understands their needs. We also know how challenging it is to make a buying decision without first seeing a range of options in action, which is precisely why we offer free demonstrations on all our commercial cleaners.

We also offer a service and repair facility. Again this is completely tailored and personalised and we guarantee to do our utmost to provide the fastest turnaround possible, as we know how crucial it is to keep downtime to an absolute minimum. You can drop your machine in to us, arrange to send it or we’ll organise a collection: whatever works best for you.

All Orders Fully Guaranteed

With Anderson Trade, you will always get precisely what you need, whether that’s a commercial cleaning machine, a replacement part or an accessory to make things even simpler for you. In addition we offer a money back guarantee: if you are not totally satisfied with what you have purchased from us then you are welcome to return it to us for a full refund. We’ll even organise a collection for you if that’s easier, simply deducting any costs from your refund.

Trade Account Facilities

Trade customers are offered the benefit of account facilities too, offering the chance to pay on invoice, enjoy trade discounts and receive exclusive offers.

If you are in the process of sourcing a new commercial vacuum cleaner, hard floor cleaner, scrubber dryer, rotary floor polisher or any other type of commercial cleaning machine, then why not talk to Anderson Trade? Vacuum Cleaners and Energy Efficiency

Vacuum cleaners and energy efficiency has been the subject of much discussion of late and, whilst we are still within the EU, it is something we are going to have to live with, for the time being at least.

The EU Eco-design Directive and the Energy Labelling Framework Directive govern the energy efficiency and energy labelling of all vacuum cleaners made in or shipped into the UK. The directives apply only to new upright and cylinder vacuums and do not cover wet and dry vacuums, robot vacuums or rechargeable vacuums.

Under the requirements of the Eco-design directive, all vacuums must be less than 1600 watts in power, must consume no more than 62 kWh of energy per year and must carry a dust removal efficiency grading.

The energy labelling requirement means that all vacuums will be rated from A to G based on their energy efficiency and cleaning performance on hard floors and carpets, and on their dust emissions. This is a similar system to that used for washing machines and fridge freezers.

The Energy Efficiency Label

An A-rated vacuum cleaner is the most energy efficient machine, whereas machines with a G-rating will be the least efficient. The annual energy consumption of the vacuum cleaner is also shown on the label. The lower the number, the more energy efficiency the cleaner offers. Remember that the figure should not be above 62 kWh per year.

There are separate grades for dust pick-up that apply to carpet and hard flooring. An A-rating for this element will mean the cleaner is highly effective. If you see anything below a C-rating, it really should be a no-go.

Dust re-emission concerns the amount of dust put back into the atmosphere via the vacuum’s exhaust following cleaning. This is a very important consideration where allergies are concerned, so if you are looking to ensure your working environment is as allergen-free as possible, you will need to go for an A-grade in this respect. The exhaust air will depend upon the quality and type of filter fitted to the vacuum cleaner, and how well the cleaner is sealed will also have an effect. Don’t go for anything below a C-grade but do try to seek out A and B ratings.

The noise level of the vacuum cleaner is also graded on the energy efficiency label. The lower the decibels, the quieter the cleaner. In a commercial setting, this is particularly important where cleaning takes place during working hours.

Energy Efficient Vacuum Cleaners: Buyer’s Guide

If you are looking to remain compliant when choosing a commercial vacuum cleaner, the Numatic range will serve you well. Henry for example is A-rated for energy efficiency. Its dust pick-up for carpets and hard floors is grade C, as is its dust re-emission grade.

Hetty carries the same grading as Henry as does James, whose annual
energy consumption is way below the amount allowable under the directive

Hetty carries the same grading as Henry as does James, whose annual energy consumption is way below the amount allowable under the directive at just 25.2 kWh per year.

Lindhaus upright machines for professional use are all rated Class A for energy efficiency. They are also very low noise level.

Lindhaus machines are A-rated for energy efficiency

Sebo also remodelled its designs to take in lower energy consumption in line with the EU directive and its range now combines energy efficiency with ergonomic and user-friendly design, exceptional performance and low noise levels.

The Rotary Cleaner: Buyer’s Guide

Rotary cleaning machines, also known as floorcare machines, are versatile pieces of equipment that ensure highly thorough and comprehensive cleaning, even where dirt is heavily impacted, using a variety of methods.

Ideal for cleaning right into corners, nooks and crannies; these machines will, courtesy of different attachments fitted to a rotating cleaning head, scrub, dry, burnish, spray clean, buff, lightly sand, scarify and mop hard floors. Some will sweep and vacuum and there are also models that can tackle carpets too: particularly effective for high traffic and excessively soiled areas.

Because individual cleaning needs vary, as do the demands of the environments that require cleaning, it is imperative to choose the correct rotary cleaning machine to ensure the highest possible level of efficiency. Specifications vary from brand to brand and from model to model, even though many of them may appear similar. The following information is therefore designed to assist you in making your rotary cleaning machine buying decision.

Electric or Battery Powered?

Whilst electric rotary cleaners are the most common choice, there is the opportunity to invest in a battery powered model, ideal for situations where flexibility is of importance. If for example there is a need to transport the machine in lifts or up and down stairs, or there are areas to clean that are some distance from a power point, then a battery powered model will be most beneficial.

The MotorScrubber MS1000 for example is a battery scrubbing cleaning machine that offers the added benefit of being lightweight and compact. A versatile piece of equipment, the MotorScrubber is perfect for smaller environments and, thanks to its submersible head, it can also be used to clean swimming pools and boat hulls. The motor delivers on power and the battery pack provides up to 4 hours after a single 8-hour charge. There’s an aggressive scrubbing brush for stubborn dirt plus other attachments for spray cleaning and dry buffing as well as a multi-purpose pad for general applications.

The MotorScrubber MS1000

When it comes to electric rotary cleaning machines, there is lots of choice, so let’s take a look at some of the other factors to consider as part of your buying decision.

Power and RPM

The revolutions per minute (RPM) is an important consideration because the floor surface and task(s) you wish to undertake will be dependent on it. For example, if you wish to use the machine for polishing then you will need a higher RPM, however certain floor types, such as marble, will call for a lower RPM. If you wish to use the machine primarily for scrubbing tasks, then opt for a slower speed, however if polishing is more important then you’ll need a higher RPM.

The Numatic Loline Rotary Floorcare Machine offers a 200rpm operating speed and 400W motor. Weighing in at just 18Kg, this machine is compact and easy to store, but still delivers enough power to cope well with a range of primary floorcare functions.

The Numatic Loline Rotary Floorcare Machine

At the other end of the scale, the Numatic nru1500 is an ultra-high speed floorcare machine featuring a 1500W motor and operating speed of 1500rpm. You will find plenty of RPMs and motor powers in between, so be sure to consider both when choosing your rotary cleaner. Specialist advice is essential when making your decision so that you can be sure to select precisely what you need.

The Numatic nru1500 Rotary Cleaning Machine

Cleaning Width

The size of the rotary head is another important consideration. These will range from 330mm to 450mm, as in the case of the Numatic Nrt1530 Twin Speed Rotary Floorcare Machine. This particular model offers both a high range and a low range system, meaning it can switch between 150rpm and 300rpm to suit different applications.

Weight

The weight of the floorcare machine is an essential consideration. What you choose will depend on the abilities of the operator and whether there is a need to transport the machine between floors or over long distances. The weight of the machine will also dictate the degree of dirt removal and type of polished finish required.

Flexibility

If you want your rotary cleaning machine to cover a range of applications and floor types, then go for a model that is designed with flexibility in mind. The HOS Orbot SprayBorg Orbital Cleaning System is one such model. This multi-function hard floor and carpet cleaner provides deep cleaning for carpets without the need for much water, meaning the floor is left virtually dry. Plus, with the use of various accessories, the machine can be used to clean concrete, tiles and vinyl as well as for scarifying and cleaning porous marble and terrazzo. Daytime cleaning is no problem thanks to the quietness of this machine and its portability is yet another advantage.
